Illinois has appropriated $16.3 million for school district broadband expansion with the goal that all school districts achieve broadband capability by the beginning of the 2020-2021 school year. The funds from the School Infrastructure Fund will be distributed to school districts by Illinois State Board of Education. To be eligible districts must be approved for broadband expansion funding under the Universal Service Program for Schools and Libraries. School districts without high-speed Internet access will receive priority with respect to the distribution of these funds. Additional information regarding the program can be found on the ISBE website.
