Since 1967, UNESCO has promoted the importance of education and literacy by encouraging people to celebrate International Literacy Day, which is celebrated annually on September 8th. It is a day to remind world leaders and the general public of the current status of adult literacy and learning. The aim of the campaign is to help increase literacy for all people. The theme for 2018 is Literacy and Skills Development. You can promote literacy in your local community by getting involved with your local library, giving a book as a gift to a friend or donating books to a local charity.
