THOMASBORO — It was a special night to honor one of Prairieview-Ogden’s own.
Former 24-year superintendent and volleyball coach Vic White was celebrated for his remarkable achievements and contributions to PVO’s school district and athletic programs.
Superintendent Jeff Isenhower said White was honored with a gym naming at a ceremony between the seventh- and eighth-grade volleyball games Tuesday night.
Isenhower said they thought it was appropriate to name the junior high school gym after White.
A sign featuring the gym’s new name was mounted above the gymnasium doors, and White was given a duplicate of it to keep.
Isenhower, who was first hired to work in the district by White in 2002, said they wanted a co-op recognition for all his work with the school district and also for his athletic achievements, including five state trophies with teams.
Many in the community say it’s a well-deserved honor, and they thank White for his years of service.
White says he’s grateful for the recognition.
“This is a great honor. It’s an unbelievable honor that I will probably cherish for the rest of my life,” White said.
He said as others with their careers, he put his heart and soul into it.
He’s thankful for the recognition of his commitment to “this wonderful district.”
In addition to being superintendent and coaching volleyball for 10 years, he also was principal and coached junior high track.
Just looking at his volleyball coaching stats for the seventh- and eighth-grade teams, he racked up 15 regional wins; 14 sectional wins; and five state trophies.
