1. Right after the pandemic, Mahomet-Seymour’s freshmen-on-the-right-track rating fell from 94.2 percent to 88.1 percent, activating a plan of action. “In response to this, we became more intentional about monitoring this indicator,” Principal Chad Benedict says.
“We saw this initiative as a way to be proactive vs. reactive with our student support. Freshmen-on-track teams were created with staff to monitor progress and support.”
The results: that number rose to 90.2 in 2022, 92.1 in 2023 and 94.3 in this round.
2. For the sixth straight report card, Mahomet-Seymour returned 90-plus percent of its teachers last year. Helping the cause: the district’s average teacher pay topped $60,000 for the first time.
3. An area-best 22.7 percent of Mahomet-Seymour juniors exceeded the proficiency level on the math portion of the SAT.
Next-highest among 39 nearby high schools: Paxton-Buckley-Loda at 8.4, Champaign Central at 7.4 and LeRoy at 6.6. Eighteen area schools had no students in the “exceeds” category, with the state average just 6.2.
