When he came to Champaign 31 years ago, Peoria native Greg Stock had a hard time choosing which high school to teach at. So he chose based on the little he knew: Centennial had air conditioning, and Central didn’t.
Three decades later, he’s known as Centennial’s “Walking Encyclopedia,” according to Principal Sara Sanders.
“Not only does he engage students in the social sciences by tying in relevance to our past, our present and our future, but he also invites in former Chargers as guest speakers,” she said. “He engages students in creative ways and has an artful balance of high expectations, humor and compassion for his students. In his free time, he gives extended tours to alumni and community members so that we honor the history of Centennial: our past, present, and future.”
